2020 Marriage Challenge Day 25

Day 25 of the Marriage Challenge

Day 25: Love Befriends

The foundation of marriage is friendship. Everything else is built upon it. When a couple has a strong friendship, they trust one another. This trust allows them to communicate. It empowers them to endure hard times and to move forward when other couples get stuck. Friendship is the key that unlocks every other door in marriage. (If you haven't read it, pick up a copy of Friends, Partners & Lovers).Yet friendship is easily overlooked. Every good relationship starts with friendship. A first date is basically three hours of figuring out if you can be friends with the person or not. But as time passes and life becomes more demanding, it's easy to allow the friendship between a husband and wife to fade. We become too busy making money, raising kids, and managing careers that we can easily lose the time necessary to truly be friends. This is why many couples struggle when they become empty nesters. They have ignored their friendship for twenty years and then have to rediscover who the other one is. Thankfully, many couples navigate this season well and fall back in love with each other. But we don't have to wait until the nest is empty to redevelop our friendship. It is too important to ignore. Love should drive us toward our spouse. We should guard our time and intentionally invest in the friendship element of our marriage.Love befriends.                  Application: Read How To Create Friendship in Marriage.
