2020 Marriage Challenge Day 9
Day 9 of the 28-Day Marriage Challenge
Consider
in light of your marriage.
Day 9: Love Prays
Your marriage is bigger than you. When we consider our marriage smaller and less important than it actually is, we can easily excuse bad decisions and behaviors. Yet when we remember that our marriage is much bigger than us, it empowers us to invest in the relationship as we should and make decisions that are wise rather than foolish.Small thinking believes marriage is just between a husband and wife. We believe that our marriage only matters to us. If that's the case, we can do whatever we wish and no one will be impacted. But marriage isn't just about us. Marriage is much bigger than that.Marriage is so big that it matters to God. In part, this is why your wedding vows weren't just made to each other, but were also made to God. One way to remind ourselves of the bigness of marriage is to pray for ourselves, our spouses, and our marriage. We should pray that we would be the type of spouse God desires us to be. That we would love, listen, learn, and live the vows we made. We should pray for our spouse that they might be comforted in life's troubles, flourish in their endeavors, and have peace in their relationship with God. We should pray for our marriage that it would honor God, bless others, and be a source of contentment for ourselves. Love prays. The prayer motivates us to love more, work harder, and be more forgiving. Application: Pray for your marriage, your spouse, and yourself. If you don't know what to pray, place you and your spouse's name into the Lord's prayer. (Example: "Forgive me and Jenny our debts, even as we forgive one another.")
