Becoming Friends, Partners & Lovers

a pathway toward the relationship you desire

Ever since Friends, Partners & Lovers was published, people have asked for a workbook, but it never made since to me. Each chapter has questions at the end and many small groups have studied the book. But the past year, a friend presented a different idea. Rather than a simple workbook on the original book, what if I wrote a new Guidebook which helps couples and individuals toward the goal of becoming friends, partners, and lovers.

So we published Becoming Friends, Partners, & Lovers: The Guidebook. With all new material, this is a pathway for couples to pursue after the relationship they desire. While the original book was meant to be read by an individual or couple, The Guidebook is designed for marriage mentoring (one couple with a mentor couple) or a small group (3-10 couples).

There is a unique power found in community. Transformation happens at the intersection of good content and great community. The Guidebook is good content. Hopefully it will help you create great community. Whether you seek a couple out to be your mentors (or mentees) or if you get some neighborhood friends together to study The Guidebook, I guarantee that any couple who commits to study this material will see benefits in their relationship.

Let’s consider the process.

First, The Guidebook uses our Marriage Assessment to help couples discover where their relationship currently stands. In just five minutes, a husband and wife can get specific insight to their present relationship and see places where they can grow.

Second, the book is a mixture of scannable teaching along with meaningful questions. This isn’t a wordy book. It’s a punchy document with bullet points, bolded ideas, and short paragraphs. The power isn’t in the number of words, but in the ideas that can create connection.

Third, video resources assist the process. We have created two different types of video series depending on how you will study the book. For small groups, we have 12, 15-minute videos which the group can watch together and then discuss. This will create a solid hour of study, 15 minutes for the video and 45 minutes for discussion. (For a sample, watch HERE)

For those engaged in a marriage mentoring relationship, we have created a brief (4 minute) overview which a couple can listen together on their way to meet with their mentoring couple. This will refresh them on what the session covers and help them prepare for discussion. (For a sample, watch HERE)

Finally, we will continue to add resources at changetheodds.com/becomingfpl to better assist couples and groups.

So, if your marriage strong, buy a few copies of The Guidebook and invite a few neighbors or a younger couple to go through the material with you. If your marriage is struggling, buy a few copies and find a mentor couple asking them to lead you through the study.

Few things have the power to change our connection with our spouse like a meaningful group of people journeying with us through good content. Here’s the content. Go create the community.

And let me know if you need any help.
