CHANGE THE ODDS
Communication. If you ask the average couple, they will say it is their biggest problem in marriage. Jenny and I often laugh because we are both professional communicators yet we often fail to communicate well. In this edition of the Change the Odds Newsletter, we are looking at communication.
We have two new articles both written by experts who interact with clients on a daily basis regarding communication. Dr. Barbara Wilson writes on overcoming road blocks while Daniel Simpson warns of the danger of ignorance in our relationships. (This comes from question #23 from our marriage assessment.)
Getting to know your partner is an ongoing process, and it's important to continue nurturing your relationship over time.Which act of nurturing your relationship suits you best? |

UNLOCKING THE POWER OF THE MARRIAGE: TOOLBOX
A Marriage Hack:
Women often ask me, “How can I get my husband to talk?” While it’s not a perfect recipe, one piece of advice I give is this—get him side-by-side rather than face-to-face. Consider how many men interact with their friends—in a boat, in a golf car, across a pickleball net, in a deer stand, etc. Men often talk while side-by-side and doing another activity. Women more often talk face-to-face. While there are times in which face-to-face interaction needs to take place, increasing side-by-side communication can increase communication. For me and Jenny, this means going for a walk. As we walk side-by-side, we talk a whole lot more than other scnearios. Give it a try. Go for a drive. Go for a walk. Find a way to engage in activity and conversation side-by-side and see if it helps communicaiton.
