Day 15 of the 28-Day Marriage Challenge

Day 15: Listen to Love

When I officiate a wedding, it's included in the vows, "My promise to God, my promise to your family, and my promise to you is to...listen to you." Few things express love as much as listening. Consider first-time parents hearing every faint sound of their newborn. Remember how you could identify your spouse's voice in a crowded room when you first started dating. In Happily, I write, "Listening well is loving well." (pg. 90) We listen to those we love. They have unique access to our ears. We love the ones to whom we listen. Hearing others breeds compassion. If we aren't careful, time can deafen our ears toward our spouses. Instead of listening, we assume we already know what they think and believe. What we don't realize is that failing to listen is a failure to love. Stop assuming and start listening.  Application: Ask your spouse if there is an area in which they feel like you have not heard them. For more, see:How to Get Your Man to ListenHow to Make Your Wife Feel Heard
