 CHANGE THE ODDS

Welcome to the new Change the Odds Newsletter. Marriage and family were never meant to be a game of chance. This bi-monthly newsletter encourages you to work the odds so you can change the odds. Over the coming months, some of my friends (therapists, psychologists, pastors, writers, and others) will share their expertise to help your marriage and family. For this first newsletter, I want to focus on the importance of bringing life to one another, specifically by helping each other’s dreams come true. (This comes from question #13 from our marriage assessment.)

Unlocking the Power of Partnership: Empowering Your Spouse’s Dreams in Marriage

The Untold Stories of Chasing Your Dreams: Work The Odds To Change The Odds

Work THE ODDS

At Change the Odds, we encourage every couple to work the odds. Take the odd year of your anniversary date and spend at least a semester in a marriage study with a small group of people. Beyond that, do several activities each year—attend a marriage conference, go on a retreat, plan date nights, etc—in order to work on your marriage. If you work the odds, it will change the odds.

UNLOCKING THE POWER OF THE MARRIAGE: TOOLBOX

A Marriage Hack:

Here’s a simple trick that can have powerful changes. Ask your spouse, “What’s one thing I can do for you today?” Maybe you can do what they ask; maybe you can’t. But asking will still help. It will give you an idea of their stress level. It will give you a concept of something you can do for them. And it will let them know you see them and care for them. Text your spouse right now and see what they say. Then see if you can help them with what they request.
