Jenny Is Finally on the Podcast
She hates the stage and camera, but thankfully she loves me.
Hey friends,
On some birthdays, you get socks. On others, you get cake. And at least on one birthday, I got my wife to agree to appear on a podcast.
This week’s episode of Change the Odds is a special one because, after months of asking, persuading, hinting, and strategic birthday timing… Jenny Thompson makes her first-ever podcast appearance.
If you’ve followed our show for any length of time, you’ve heard me talk about Jenny as the wise, steady, quietly brilliant force in our relationship. But rarely does she step into the spotlight. She prefers the living room to the stage, real conversations over microphones, impact over attention.
That’s precisely why this episode is so meaningful.
Jenny shows up with honesty, humor, and a kind of grounded wisdom that can only come from living the real story, not the curated one.
Here’s one moment that stood out.
Jenny told the story of how, in our first year of marriage, I refused to raise my voice during conflict, not out of avoidance, but out of instinct. I don’t escalate. I don’t yell. I don’t match intensity.
To her…that felt confusing. To me…it felt natural.
Two speeds and styles converging into one marriage.
And somewhere in the middle, we had to learn what so many couples struggle to figure out:
Different doesn’t mean wrong.
And the way your spouse is wired isn’t a threat. It might even be a gift.
That idea is at the heart of the new book I wrote that just released this week:
Love Styles: Why You Love the Way You Do (and How to Change It)
It’s the book I’ve always wanted to write because attachment theory gave language to things I experienced my entire life but never knew how to name.
What I once believed was “my failure” was really just “my wiring.” And once Jenny and I learned each other’s Love Styles, we stopped assuming the worst and started understanding each other with clarity and compassion.
Marriage gets easier when you stop trying to fix your spouse
and start learning how they love.
If you want to go deeper, here are three things to check out this week:
1️⃣ The Podcast Episode (Jenny’s Big Debut!)
Hear the full story—our awkward first meeting, the early fights, the move that shaped us, and how we built a marriage around unity instead of control.
👉 Watch or listen here.
2️⃣ The New Book: Love Styles
If you’ve ever wondered why you react the way you do in relationships—or why your spouse reacts the way they do—this book will finally make it make sense. (It’s currently the number one book in Christian Relationships on Amazon.)
👉 Buy Love Styles on Amazon here.
3️⃣ The Love Styles Assessment
Hundreds have already taken it. Find out your attachment pathway in under three minutes.
👉 Take the free assessment here.
Whether you listen to the episode, read the book, or take the assessment, here’s my hope:
That you discover you’re not broken. You’re wired. And wiring can be understood, strengthened, and healed.
Here’s to changing the odds—one marriage, one conversation, and now…one birthday podcast episode at a time.
Grateful for you,
Kevin
Few things help get the word out about Love Styles as much as a verfied review on Amazon. After purchasing the book, go to Amazon and leave a simple one line review. It doesn’t matter how great the review is written, simply that it is given. Thank you.
