Love Styles, Mark Clark, and Christmas

The most relational week of the year is almost here

One of my favorite things to do is to introduce two people who I think could be great friends. That’s what I want to do with you today. Whatever brought you to this newsletter (an FPL conference, a Typeform Assessment, or a long-time relationship), you give me the privilege of entering your inbox at least once a week. I don’t take it lightly.

We are friends. I would do whatever I can to help you, your family, and those you care about.

I have another friend that I think you would love to meet. His name is Mark Clark.

Five years ago, I met Mark, and for the last four years, we have been co-workers. And I think you could greatly benefit from knowing, listening, and following him. You can follow him HERE.

This week on Change the Odds the Podcast, Mark and I talk about my new book Love Styles. It’s always fun to talk to Mark. We tested his American geography, talked about my anxious attachment toward him, and had a meaningful conversation about learning to be loved and love.

This is the most relational week of the year. The week before Christmas carries a lot of expectations. It is a great week to read through Love Styles. It will create an immediate opportunity for understanding and growth. (And, it gives you the perfect opportunity to recommend the book to that one relative who really needs it.)

When it comes to family gatherings, I usually:

Login or Subscribe to participate in polls.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to take the Love Styles Assessment and Lead Styles Assessment. These two assessments are the foundational information we use at Change the Odds to begin to help a couple determine their strengths, weaknesses, fight patterns, etc. Until you know this information, you are unlikely to make progress in your relationship.

I have an exciting tool launching early in 2026 that will use these two assessments. I can’t wait to introduce it to you. But until then…take these assessments, share them with your friends, and get to know yourself (and your spouse) better.

A thought on Rob Reiner

I can’t shake the thought of Rob Reiner and his wife. As a pastor, I’ve walked alongside many great parents who are heartbroken of the mental health struggles of their children. And I wonder how many families are more afraid this Christmas because of what happened to the Reiner’s.

Consider this thought on parenting children who struggle (I apologize for the sweatshirt, bad lighting, and facial palsy. Ha.)

A few closing thoughts:

  1. If you could leave a review of Love Styles on Amazon, it would be a great help. Thank you.

  2. I’m on the Jim Burns podcast this week and next talking about Friends, Partners & Lovers. I’m grateful to Jim and his minsitry. And it’s always fun to talk about FPL.

  3. Next week, I’ll join the Family Life Podcast to talk about Stay In Your Lane. Catch their show on your local radio station.

  4. Our Marriage Retreat in Palm Springs on January 23-25, 2026 is sold out. However, I’m opening spots for two couples, but it’s only open to people who respond to this email. If you are interested, do so quickly.

I hope you have a great Christmas. I look forward to walking alongside of you in 2026.

Blessings,

Kevin
